“It’s Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday…” This song has irritated me since the first time I heard it and I continuously ponder to myself, “Will this song ever get old?” Probably not. I mean, everyone knows it and claims to hate it, yet every time Friday rolls around, it is a Worldwide trend on Twitter and this horrid one-hit-wonder phenomenal song manages to squeeze its way back into my life.
Thanks to this new HIT remix (with nearly 12,000 views already) created by two UWO students, Patrick Searle and Brandon Sousa, I can finally listen to the tune of Friday without wanting to rip my ears off!
Pat is a graduating fourth year student at Western and is currently finishing his degree in Religious Studies and Political Science. He is also the incoming Vice President University Affairs for the University Students’ Council at Western.
Brandon is a graduating fourth year student finishing up his degree in Media, Information and Technoculture. He is the outgoing External Affairs Coordinator of the University Students’ Council and will be attending Humber College in September for Public Relations.
These two wonderful students have come together to form a parody to Rebecca Black’s “Friday”, and this song actually has a purpose!!!
As we’re all well aware, VOTING DAY is just around the corner – May 2nd, to be exact. The University Students’ Council at the University of Western Ontario wants students to hit the polls in May because of the important role the Federal Government plays in funding the Canadian Student Loan Program, which is part of the OSAP loans many students receive in September. This video is only a small part of the culture shift happening across Canada where students are rising up and telling everyone around them that they DO matter, and they NEED to vote!
If you haven’t already seen this video, CHECK IT OUT:
As Pat said, “This video was produced for the sheer purpose of getting the word out to all Canadians to vote! It’s cheeky and pure cheese, just like Rebecca Black’s original song “Friday”, but we wanted something to get stuck in the heads of students all across the country, and Black’s song was the perfect choice.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Now remember two important things:
BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD!
VOTE MAY 2nd; for you and for Canada.
