As I sat down and watched the Victoria Secret Fashion Show with a heavy night crew comprised of six girls and three boys, I quickly realized we were all watching it for different reasons. We started to exchange our different motivations, these are the results…
The Boys: For the Girls
Why do you think boys watch the Victoria Secret Fashion Show? To see what their girlfriends are going to be wearing on NYE? To look for some Christmas presents? If your naive enough to believe they can see anything past the perfectly airbrushed sculpted asses then sweetheart, take another shot because you must be drunk. The boys that we were with were all watching for one reason and one reason only: the women. They watch it for the beautiful women that seemingly float across the stage in six inch heels. Impressive and everything, but I’d love for them to navigate Richmond Row in those same heels. Sidewalks aren’t very forgiving.
The Girls: For Every Reason Imaginable
I had to write this article so ergo I had to watch the show. I didn’t really like how there wasn’t a clear winner and how I actually couldn’t tell what was for sale. I do not believe there were any ready to wear looks. Did you see the girl dressed up as a tricycle? But, do you think there’s shipping and handling on a set of wings? Like, why not? Right? I also watched the show because everyone always talks about it and I knew I’d have to engage in countless girl talks on the topic. Gag me. I think my roommate watched it purely for Rihanna’s and Justin Bieber’s performance. The other girls watched it for various reasons, “Everything is so pretty!” “I love her hair!” “OMG her abs are so good! I’m not eating this week” were all constant phrases I kept seeing on Twitter and Facebook (my roommates and I celebrated the show by baking cookies and squares- ha!) So apparently, while the guys were watching it as an alternate to the other shows they watch before bed and have to pay for, the girls in the room were simply developing an eating disorder (helpful tip: the models don’t starve themselves, so please eat breakfast tomorrow) and window shopping while in the comfort of their own homes. I think other girls were probably watching it for some motivation before the holiday season and therefore the forthcoming Spring Break diet that occurs immediately following. Whatever the motivation, the girls were as glued to the TV as the guys were.
So now we have to wait another year for another glittered adventure down the cat walk and what are we going to do in the meantime? Shop online at VictoriaSecret.com. I haven’t found any wings yet…
