The Recovery Room – April 1st

The Recovery Room – April 1st

Happy Saturday, Western. Just kidding, it’s Sunday… Happy April Fool’s Day!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and didn’t spend too much time at Weldon and not enough time in downtown London. We’re nearing the end of the year and heading into our last full week of classes before we head home for the summer. Hopefully this list will give you a little recovery, and a few tracks to add to your mellow study jams!

This week I am featuring New Zealand singer-songwriter Kimbra as the recovery artist of the week. Many of you may recognize her name from Gotye’s hit single, “Somebody That I Used To Know,” which she was featured on. Kimbra’s powerful vocals were perfect for this particular song and lucky for her, the success of this single has substantially widened her audience and given her the credit that she deserves. “Somebody That I Used To Know” has been well-received around the world; topping the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. Even more impressive than this, the single earned Kimbra “Best Female Artist” and “Best Song” at Australia’s 2011 ARIA Music Awards.

Her one and only album, The Vows, took three and a half years to produce. This album proved to her fans that good things come to those who wait (I’m praying this is true with Dr. Dre’s Detox)! Kimbra is currently on tour across the US, and many of her scheduled shows have already fully sold out.

The rest of this week’s lineup is one of my favorites curated thus far. Make sure to check out all of these amazing artists’ discographies. Relax and nurse your hangover, but you recover quick enough to get a little bit of studying done! Enjoy:

Vacationer – Good as New

Michael Kiwanuka – Home Again

Melanie Fiona – Bones

Admiral Fallow – Dead Leg

First Aid Kit – The Lion’s Roar

Cold Specks – Holland

Lady Danville – Kids (MGMT Cover)

Lauren is double major student at UWO studying MIT & English Lit. She hopes to pursue a career in journalism or public relations after University. In the meantime you can find her at the arena, campus rec, or JBRS.
