Janet Jackson, who? As part of the Bridgestone Super Bowl Halftime Show, Madonna appeared for a brief set with several of her musical superstar friends. With her upcoming album, MDNA, set to be released March 26, 2012, Madonna, the queen of pop played a solid selection of tracks from throughout her 33 year career.
Despite the obvious lip synching, auto-tuning and cathartic support (on my favorite track of hers), the 53 year old has shown why she has had the equivalent career as Rolling Stones‘ lead singer, Mick Jagger. Through the evolution of her sound, Madonna has been able to cater to multiple generations’ musical tastes, making her a surprising, yet suitable act to headline the Halftime Show.
Being Madonna must have its perks, as the woman who was escorted out onto the field with an army of pseudo-ancient Greco soldiers performed like a Godess. Starting the performance off with her epic song “Vogue,” Madonna went on to play another of her former #1′s, “Music,” followed by which, LMFAO, that whacky uncle-nephew duo, appeared to help with an odd performance of the “Party Rock” shuffle and mix of “Sexy and I Know It.” MIA (who casually flipped the bird during the performance) and Nicki Minaj then popped up on elevated platforms to help perform their current hit song, “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” one of the several songs off of MDNA produced by Martin Solveig. To close out the show, she brought Cee Lo Green on as a marching band leader to help out with my favorite track of hers, “Like a Prayer.”
Sure, there wasn’t much singing by Madonna or rapping by Nicki Minaj, but the Halftime Show was a hell of a performance. Check back soon for the video of her full performance in Indianapolis.

If only we were able to see the American-programmed commercials as they’re aired, during the game. That’s what I’m thinking, having just seen this great commercial by Chrysler, that car company whose 300 series commercial with Eminem surprised the entire world a year ago with some help from brilliant actor/director/activist, Clint Eastwood.
