Featured Canadian DJs: ADVENTURE CLUB

brittanyluongo Posted on February 10, 2012

There’s a fever going around London, and judging by the looks of it – it’s not going away anytime soon. The DJ scene has exploded over the past few months, bringing in acts such as Deadmau5, Avicii, Swedish House’s Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello, Alesso, Mark Knight, Porter Robinson, and I’d be here for too long if I attempted to finish the list. However, the list was missing one of my favourite set of DJs for the reason that many people are still getting to know them: Adventure Club.

Leighton James and Christian Srigley are the Montreal-born men behind the masks who deserve all the hype they get, and then some. Adventure Club came to London a month or so back and was definitely among the best shows I’ve been to, and I’ve been to quite a few, to say the least. Although there wasn’t as big of a turnout as I had expected, those who attended were given a great performance. Adventure Club has built their reputation upon their taking amazing, often times, lesser known songs and making them even better. Not only that, but their shows are extremely energetic and interactive, including times when Leighton would join the crowd’s huge rage session.

They’re not your typical “dubstep, wobble til you fall, drop the bass” kind of djs, but their dubstep allows for some of the best parts of the original song to be highlighted. One of my favourites is their remix of James Vincent McMorrow’s We Don’t Eat but they’ve gotten more recognition for their remix of Flight Facilities’ Crave You and Lips’ Everything to Me –both extremely good remixes. I’ve been a huge fan for a while now, so when I heard that they recently released their first original production I felt like a proud mother sending her child off to high school for the first time. The song is called Do I See Colour and has Adventure Club‘s signature classy dubstep written all over it. The song is rightfully climbing the international EDM charts, giving the boys some much deserved credit.

If my instincts are right, having just released a beauteous remix of Foxes’ Youth, we should be expecting an Adventure Club EP in the near future, so if you’re interested in what they have to offer, keep your eyes peeled. This DJ fever has put London on the map as one of the top places to rage in Ontario as, in the next short while, we will be graced by DJs such as Rusko, Hardwell, and Gareth Emery, all of who are must see performers! Half the fun of having all these DJs coming to London is the excitement of guessing who will be next on the playbill. There is a short proverb that goes: “the bigger, the better,” and I’m all for bringing the world’s most-renowned DJs to London-town. Although those are some dreams of mine, here’s to hoping that we’ll be seeing some smaller, yet equally deserving acts, helping propel their international recognition and show our fellow Canadians some much deserved love.
