Coachella has become one of the biggest cult festivals in North America over the past decade, garnering hundreds of thousands, nearing the million aggregate attendee mark, of visitors to the Polo Grounds in Indio, California since the festival’s inception in 1999. Having been streamed live around the world via Youtube this past April, Coachella broadened it’s viewership from the swaths of people attending the festival in the desert to the masses around the world connected by the internet. Coachella is famed for being held in 100 degree Fahrenheit temperature and for the world-class artists that are brought in to perform and the hundreds of others coming to pay their dues and appreciate the spectacular acts.
Since 2007, when Rage Against The Machine reunited at the Polo Grounds, the festival has become a place to be for the socialites, music connoisseur and even the casual dabbler. This current population differs greatly from the original group of hipsters and diehard music fanatics that attended the burgeoning festival over a decade ago as a haven for their musical apetites. This year has marked another departure from the past, with the introduction of a sizeable amount of house/electro/dubstep DJs including genre heavy hitters such as Swedish House Mafia, Dada Life, Calvin Harris, Justice, Zeds Dead, Afrojack, Avicii, Alesso, Kaskade, David Guetta, Flux Pavillion, araabMUZIK, Madeon and SebastiAn.
Although I am a fan of almost every act on the playbill, I think that it is only fair for me to introduce you to my top 10 lesser known artists of the 2012 Coachella lineup. If you were lucky enough to purchase a ticket for this sure-to-be incredible festival that sold out in 3 hours on January 10th, I applaud you and with you the best on your journey.
