This past week I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the biggest up and coming acts in Southwestern Ontario’s house music scene. Dzeko & Torres, the tandem from the Greater Toronto Area, have amazed us on several occasions with their great opening sets for high caliber DJ events here in London and the rest of the region. With big things planned and many more shows to play for us, read up to find out more about Dzeko & Torres! We are also debuting their latest podcast, which you can check out at the bottom of the article!
PremierLife: Having just opened for Marcus Schossow, you guys have opened for a nice number of acts in and around the Toronto area. Who would you say has put on the best show you’ve been a part of?
Dzeko & Torres: Hmmm, that’s a tough one. We’ve had the opportunity to open for a lot of different acts recently like Ingrosso, Schossow, Porter Robinson, Erick Morillo, Michael Woods and Quintino aswell. Its hard to say who put on a better show though, because they were all so amazing in their own way (and I swear we’re not just saying that to be nice, each one was really amazing, you can tell why these guys are pros)
PL: Who has influenced your style of music the most?
D&T: The most? Can’t really say becase our sound is always changing. I mean, we started off producing tech house, then switched into more progressive stuff, and now were doing a combination of electro and progressive. A list on influences includes anyone from Avicii to Lazy Rich, or Umek to Alesso. Whoever we think makes good music is where we find our inspiration I guess.
PL: Has Toronto’s vast musical culture inspired you to use different sounds?
D&T: Sort of. For example, we’ve played around with a lot of sounds you wouldn’t typically hear in a house/electronic production. A lot of times, however, it just doesn’t fit. Where I’d say we have been inspired by that is in our sets. When we have a chance to put on a proper show (rather than just open for someone) we throw in a few different genres. Don’t be surprised if in a set we’d play house, progressive, electro, dubstep, tech, rock, and even throw in a little touch of hip hop.
PL: What is your favorite venue to rock the house in Toronto? Outside the GTA?
D&T: In Toronto I’d say it would have to be a tie between the Hoxton and Cobra. People just GO OFFFFFFFF at those places. Maison would come a close second, but it’s a whole different experience there. Outside the GTA, maybe Cobra London or Guelph Concert Theatre? Haven’t played London Music Hall yet but that’s coming up soon.
PL: We here at PremierLife are huge fans of an unreleased track of yours with awesome female vocals. When the heck is that set to be released?
D&T:
Can’t really talk about that one haha.
PL: Who would you consider to be a dream collaboration DJ-wise? Vocal/instrumentally?
D&T: A dream collaboration eh? Well I think the most obvious answer would be Alesso or Avicii or any of the SHM. Those are big dreams though. To be honest, we’re currently collaboration with a lot of other artists right now and its really a great experience because you get to see how other people do stuff their way. Vocally, we’d have to go with something epic like Nadia Ali, Nervo or Max C. And instrumentally? Hmmm. I (Luis) was a piano teacher for a while before getting into producing, so I’ve met some pretty amazing pianists that I would love to call up one day, but as for more famous gents, id have to say either the Keyboard Cat or the Epic Sax Guy. 2 amazing artists! LOL
PL: When can we expect to see you playing in London again?
D&T: Yes you can actually, very soon. We just found out today actually that we’ll be opening for another HUGE act in London, and im pretty sure we’ll be doing a few other shows in the area. We really love London, ya’ll really know how to party.
PL: What’s next for Dzeko and Torres?
D&T: I wish I knew. Busy busy busy. As we speak now, we’re on our way to New York to work on some remixes for major labels, and as soon as we get back we head straight back to the studio because we are SUPER busy. Have a lot of tracks coming out soon though so hopefully the next time we talk, we’ll be on some beach instead of this damn snow storm LOL. Cheers.
