Alphabet Soup: The Black Keys must watch — “Gold on the Ceiling”

brittanyluongo Posted on February 13, 2012

Today’s recipe includes 1/4 cup guitar riffs, 2/4 cups great vocals, a catchy chorus, and a fun appearance by a stallion companion. My choice for this week’s letter is The Black Keys. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are the Ohio-born duo behind the name who decided to drop out of college to pursue their musical careers (ya, I know – international success always happens this way). On Tuesday, The Black Keys released their latest video for “Gold on the Ceiling” from their new album, El Camino. Within two hours, the song had already reached 2,000 views – showing the fans’ anticipation and continuous support.

I fell in love with the The Black Keys back in 2008, when they released their album Attack & Release, which highlighted their raw blues rock sound and pretty much launched their career (if you’re interested, check out “Psychotic Girl” and “Strange Times” – two of the best tracks from the album). Two years later, Brothers was released and The Black Keys were receiving international praise, along with 3 Grammy Awards, for their song titled “Tighten Up.”  Their video, “Gold on the Ceiling,” directed by Reid Long, features a compilation of scenes captured from their latest tour, and although it isn’t my favourite Black Keys song to date, it is among my favourites from their latest album. The Black Keys’ music fits under my category of “walking music” — as it seems as if it’s 60’s inspired. This is true feel-good music, that compliments your walk to class perfectly.

Here’s “Gold on the Ceiling” also, check out their hit single, “Psychotic Girl,” below.
