Alphabet Soup: From A to Zealia – Azealia Banks

brittanyluongo Posted on February 6, 2012

There’s nothing better when you’re feeling sick than a good, old-fashioned bowl of alphabet soup. I’m Brittany Luongo and I’ll be providing you with your weekly recipe for the perfect bowl. In “Alphabet Soup” you’ll be given only the freshest ingredients that make up the perfect recipe for anything to do with great music.

We’ll start at the beginning of the alphabet this week with my take on the letter “A.” At the top of the alphabet we have Azealia Banks. This Harlem-born rapper is taking the music and fashion scenes by storm with her latest single “212”. Her style is so fresh and her mouth is oh-so-filthy, even going as far as using the “C word”–you know, the one that goes against all rules. She tops off her nasty mouth with some great beats that drive you directly to the dancefloor. Not only is Azealia a great rapper with great flow, but she’s got an amazing singing voice to go with it. The hype around Azealia is evident as “212” has been included in Diplo’s most recent session on Sirius XM (which has been on repeat for me this past week), and the song was also slotted to be the opening song on season 6 of the UK’s hit show “Skins.” I promise you that this song will be on repeat on your iTunes, as well as playing in your head while dancing up a storm at Jim Bob Rays, until she drops another killer tune. If you like “212” and are interested in female rap that has nothing to do with Nicki Minaj’s ASSets, check out her older single “Runnin” – it’s less of a dancy feel but definitely badass.

As said earlier, Azealia has also taken the fashion industry by storm, even getting invited to play “212″ at legendary designer, Karl Lagerfeld’s house for a private party.
