I wish I still wholeheartedly believed in Santa. If I did, I would simply sit down and write him a letter. Probably looking something like this:
Dear: Santa,
I hope you had a nice vacation. All I want for Christmas this year is the NBA.
Love, Claire McArthur.
I wouldn’t ask for anything more. I wouldn’t ask for a Tiffany’s celebration ring, I wouldn’t ask for Jeffrey Campbell shoes (all of them), I wouldn’t even ask for bacon. Nope, I’d ask for the NBA. The lockout has been a probability since the end of the 2010/2011 season, however, real negotiations didn’t start between the players and the owners until October (WHY?!). This past week, David Stern, the Commissioner of the NBA, presented another offer to the National Basketball Player’s Association with a new set of terms, but was struck down by NBPA. While LA Lakers star Derek Fischer, the president of the NBPA, stated that this was an unanimous decision, it is obvious via websites and social media outlets like Twitter (which is extremely popular amongst NBA players) that some would rather start playing basketball again. As a fan, I would like nothing more.
So, while the Mistake of the Week is the players and owners being greedy bitches (do they actually need more money?!) which only further confirms why I like NCAA basketball better, the other consequential Mistakes of the Week are what we’re missing as the fan base.
We’re missing Blake Griffin dunks…
But we do have Bill Simmons giving Blake tips about dunking…
We’re missing the MVP…
D. Rose has been my bro’s favourite player since his days in Memphis, maybe I should have listened to him back then.
We’re missing KOBE…
Well, I’m not missing Kobe because I see him all the time…In my dreams.
We’re missing the Disco step…
At least this helps us understand how Dirk does it.
Luckily, some of the boys were able to meet up and play a few pick up games. Things got nice. Fast.
However, some other boys were taking advantage of their free time in other ways. Wade, Bosh and Amare hit up the links this past week (notice how Wade, my favourite of the South Beach Sweethearts, is actually wearing his own t-shirt….I question that decision). Well at least we know where your heads at…Maybe why you lost the finals?
Maybe the lock out is a good thing for the Miami players. The longer the season is on hiatus the more likely it will be that people forget about their loss to Dirk and the boys in the finals last year as well as their magic shows in which they disappeared during the fourth quarter of their games.
