Dance to Conquer Cancer for The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation

sarah victoria Posted on February 9, 2012

For the first time ever, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation has organized an afternoon full of dancing to raise money called Disco Days and Boogie Nights. UWO (or I guess WUC now…) was one of the three universities chosen to partake in this event to gain awareness and raise money. This Sunday February 12th, you can show off your dance moves and be led by special fitness instructors Richard Simmons, Blake McGrath, and disco queen Gloria Gaynor.

Why is the Princess Margaret Hospital more than your average hospital?

  1. They are one of the top 5 leading cancer research centers in the world.
  2. They are a private hospital which means they rely 100% on donations and do not receive government funding.
  3. Their vision is to, “Conquer cancer in our lifetime,” which is AMAZING!
  4. Currently 38% of women and 41% men will develop cancer in their lifetime…So why not donate?

One of the main goals of this event is to gain the awareness from a younger audience. It is important to know that even at our young age how cancer can affect our lives. We were one of the chosen schools to get the ball rolling on this event, and we are trying to raise as much money as possible. The goal is to raise $500,000.00 for this event, and right now we are just shy of $440,000.00. Yes, this event is this weekend, but it is not too late to sign-up or donate.

What do you get for signing-up and raising an minimum of $300?

  • VIA rail ticket round-trip from London to Toronto.
  • Vodka at the event for the night (ummm….YESSSS)!
  • Delicious lunch, dinner, and snacks.
  • Free hairstyling during the day by “BloBar”.

This video almost made me cry because Geeta (one of the cancer victims being danced for) passed away before she could see this video:
