Power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé announced the birth of their first child–baby girl Blue Ivy Carter on December 28.
We first found out about the bundle of joy when Beyoncé revealed her round belly at the August MTV Video Music Awards, and now we’ve found out about her birth through a rap from daddy Jay-Z. The 42-year-old officially confirmed that Beyoncé had given birth “Isn’t She Lovely” style by releasing the song, “Glory feat B.I.C”, this past January 9.
Opening with the line, “Baby, I paint the sky blue, my greatest creation was you,” the song reveals many personal details about the couple and their struggle to become parents. In one part he reveals that Beyoncé suffered from a miscarriage amongst other difficulties.
“Last time the miscarriage was so tragic, we was afraid you disappeared,” Jay-Z raps midway through the song. He also talks about, “False alarms and false starts…All the pain of the last time, prayed so hard it was the last time.”
One of the wittier lines pronounces, ”You’re my child of a child from Destiny’s Child.”
The song comes to a close with none other than, of course, the sounds of a baby crying—but is it really Blue’s coos?
Fellow A-listers were quick to chime in with their well wishes. Rihanna tweeted her congratulations, “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.” Gwenyth Paltrow joined in pronouncing, ”Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already.” Sean (Diddy) Combs and Russell Simmons also took the time to congratulate the couple.
The question on everyone’s mind: Will Beyoncé retire showbiz now that she is a momma? In an interview with InStyle magazine the singer said, “When you’re young—18 or 19—you have the energy and drive. That’s the time to work as hard as you can. Now I’m a woman, and because I gave it my all, I can focus on my marriage.” It doesn’t look promising for big B fans.
